About Tom

I had a 25-year career in financial services before coming to teaching. Teaching has been the most satisfying and enjoyable part of my career!

I have been teaching NCEA L1, L2, L3 & Scholarship economics for 12 years in Auckland, plus a year teaching A level economics at one of the UK's most prestigious schools.

I love the subject, especially making links between all topics and the real world. I am encouraging, patient and have a sense of humor, so I try to make it enjoyable for you to find success in the subject.

About the lesson

Economics is a beautiful subject and so useful in the real world after school. It requires good understanding of how to draw and label models, along with precise explanations in logical steps.

The first step in helping you means some diagnosis of gaps in your knowledge. Then we can work on building understanding from the foundations up, so you have a solid base. From there, we can build on detail and referencing models for higher grades.

I like the "I do, we do, you do" approach: patient explanation of key concepts, encouraging you to explain back to me and then practice, practice, practice until you're a champion!
