About William

I am currently a Law student at the University of Leeds who has played chess consistently since 2019. I have climbed to a rating of 2050 across different time formats on many chess websites and wish to share the knowledge I have learnt. I have taught many friends and family to 1000+ rating from having not played at all, so I decided to give Superprof a whirl. I'm open to teaching anyone 13+ of any ability or otherwise, drop me a message if you have any questions

About the lesson

Beginner formula: 0-1000 rating 1. Understanding the fundamentals, the way pieces move, checks, captures, attacks 2. Introduction to puzzles, checkmating the king with different pieces 3. Feedback on games already played and demystifying the chess engine's analysis Intermediate formula: 1000-1600 rating 1. Understanding openings, introduction to the Spanish opening, responding to the Queen's gambit 2. Introduction to gambits, progressing tactical vision, Vienna gambit 3. Advanced feedback on games and what to do when you don't know what to do

Perfect! Will is an excellent chess tutor. He tailors each lesson to meet your needs and focuses on the areas that will help you improve the most. I have done 4 lessons and I can already see a massive improvement in my Chess. I highly recommend Will as a Tutor.

Gareth has a solid foundation in chess and has great tactical vision, but is very willing to listen and expand his chess knowledge, aswell as showing a good capacity for remembering new concepts in the game too

Perfect! William is great and for a first lesson, started off with understanding where I would like to be and then building a plan. Clearly is able to work with students and offer different techniques and advise. Having a great time getting better at Chess with him!

Will is always engaged and is not scared to introduce his own ideas into the lesson, as well as his preferences as to what he wants to learn, which gives me a lot of direction as a teacher. Because of his genuine interest and engagement in chess, I have been able to build past lessons on top of each other which has resulted in his consistent improvement

Jack is incredibly attentive and engaged when I listen to him, and always surprises me with his ideas. Since his first lesson he has significantly improved, and sees ideas on the chess board in seconds that he would not have seen when he started. I’m very excited to see his journey progress

I’ve known Will for a long enough amount of time to understand his love for learning new things - and with this, his love for making other people experience the pleasure of improving at something.

It’s rare to find someone that genuinely cares about sharing their ideas or ability with others in a very natural, non judgemental way without coming across as condescending or ignorant.

It’s a massively overlooked quality which Will holds as one of his greatest strengths.

I’d recommend him to anyone willing to learn whilst being in great company :)

Will’s a great teacher who helped me get from 800 rating to 1300 within a month, always patient, but gives you the drive to achieve and guides you through the lesson in an easily digestible way, so that you always feel like you are progressing.

Having grown up my whole life not being interested in Chess, a summer working at a children’s camp in America and losing constantly led to a strong desire to improve my game.

As a complete beginner it was quite demoralising losing regularly but through Wills guidance and support I have been able to massively increase my chess IQ and ELO rating.

From teaching me basic fundamentals through to advanced openings, midgames and endgames I have not only improved my game massively but my enjoyment of the game has also increased.

Will is a really smart guy who clearly knows what he’s doing on a chess board.
