About Ameera
My name is Ameera Yacoob, and I am a passionate and driven second-year Chemical Engineering student at the University of Cape Town (UCT), with a strong academic, leadership, and mentoring background. I matriculated from Herschel Girls’ High School with a consistent A aggregate and received several prestigious awards, including Academic Honours, The All-Rounder Award, and the Jenny Torr Award for service to the library. My interest in technology, problem-solving, and innovation is reflected in achievements such as earning a Silver Certificate in the South African Programming Olympiad and placing in the Top 10 nationally in the Microsoft Imagine Cup Junior Hackathon. Throughout my school and university journey, I have been deeply involved in leadership and mentorship. I served as Head Prefect of the Baxter Resource Centre, founded the Herschel STEM Society, and continue to support students through structured tutoring and academic guidance. Chess has been a major part of my personal development. I have represented South Africa internationally, earned multiple provincial and national titles, and played a key role in establishing chess as an official school sport at Herschel by leading its first formal team. Beyond academics, I have been actively involved in outreach initiatives such as JUMP-HI Maths tutoring, Interact, and societies including Herschel MSA and EQ Club, contributing to community development and collaborative learning environments. Now, as a Chemical Engineering student at UCT, I combine strong subject knowledge with proven teaching experience to help learners build confidence, master concepts, and achieve their academic goals. I am committed to delivering structured, engaging, and results-driven tutoring tailored to each student’s needs.

As a graduate of the highly respected Herschel Girls’ High School and a current second-year Chemical Engineering student at the University of Cape Town (UCT), I bring both strong academic foundations and advanced university-level insight into my tutoring. Studying Chemical Engineering requires a deep and rigorous understanding of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, and this specialised training allows me to engage with these subjects at a much higher level. As a result, I am able to identify the underlying principles, common misconceptions, and key problem-solving techniques that are essential for success. This enables me to explain complex concepts clearly and effectively to younger students, using methods that promote genuine understanding rather than memorisation.
My academic journey in highly competitive environments has equipped me with the discipline, study strategies, and subject mastery needed to help students succeed. My lessons follow a structured, flexible, and student-centred approach that is carefully tailored to each learner’s individual needs. I begin by identifying specific problem areas and designing customised lesson plans to address them. Students receive personalised booklets, summaries, and practice resources focused on strengthening their understanding and improving performance. Meaningful homework is assigned to reinforce learning, and focused crash courses are offered on challenging topics to ensure deep comprehension before assessments and examinations. A strong emphasis is placed on exam preparation. I provide detailed exam-answering techniques, past paper walkthroughs, and guidance on structuring responses effectively, enabling students to approach tests and final exams with confidence. Throughout each lesson, I create a calm, patient, and supportive learning environment that encourages active participation, builds self-belief, and promotes consistent academic growth.
In addition to structured lessons, students are given access to my extensive Google Drive resource library, which includes worksheets, revision packs, notes, and practice questions for independent study. This allows learners to consolidate their knowledge outside of lesson time and develop strong self-study habits. I offer tutoring for students from Grade R to Grade 12, specialising in Mathematics, AP Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Information Technology, Business Studies, and English. I am experienced in teaching both the IEB and DBE curricula and ensure that all lessons are aligned with specific syllabus requirements and examination standards.
What sets me apart is my ability to break down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps while fostering confidence and a strong growth mindset. My academic achievements, including Academic Honours, All-Rounder Awards, national programming recognition, and international chess representation, reflect my commitment to discipline, excellence, and perseverance. Having navigated my own challenges in demanding academic environments, I understand the pressures students face and teach proven strategies for long-term success.
I offer both online and in-person lessons with flexible scheduling to accommodate students’ routines. In addition, I remain available outside of lesson hours for quick questions, clarification, and follow-ups, ensuring that learners receive continuous support throughout their academic journey.
My goal is not only to improve marks but also to help students develop confidence, independence, and a genuine understanding of their subjects. I am passionate about guiding learners toward their academic goals and making the learning process both productive and enjoyable. Together, we can turn challenges into lasting success
