About Alan
With a cGPA of 3.7 in the Honors Math program at the University of Toronto, it demonstrates both a strong academic foundation and discipline. I am a punctual and organized person deeply passionate about teaching, reflected through my extensive experience tutoring mathematics. For instance, in high school, I participated in the school’s tutoring program, assisting a teacher with first-year classes, and I also took part in the Math Challengers program, where I taught competition math to motivated elementary students.
More recently, I have gained professional tutoring experience at Quantum Academy, working with students on SAT preparation during the summers of 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Since I offer tutoring for both high school and university mathematics, the specific approach might differ depending on the level of math I am teaching. However, in both cases, my core strategy is to break down the concept into its fundamental constituents and build up understanding from the ground up. I believe students should understand why the inventor of a topic chose to define it the way it is and feel like they would do the same thing if they were to invent the topic. My typical lesson plans involve carefully examining the list of topics the students need help with given pre-lesson and investigating how to best build up the topic assuming the least amount of prior knowledge. Sometimes it might even include interesting historical facts about the development of the topic. If you know the YouTuber 3Blue1Brown, his style of explanation with my own touch is what I strive for.
