About Burton
I myself had a mixed path through math up until college, so I understand the difficulty that comes with not getting things the first time around! This makes it easier for me to remain persistent with my students and work with them until it all clicks.
Additionally as a mathematician, I strive to allow people to see how cool and beautiful math and physics can be, as opposed to seeing it as the course/s you have to struggle through. I use examples, applications, history, and thought experiments as much as possible to help my students really get involved in the problem-solving process and to help them appreciate mathematics and physics.

Whether in person or virtually I prefer to maximize the visual approach to learning; I use large physical blackboards (even in a virtual setting!) to diagram and provide examples of what we are doing.
I also prefer to get students to see the underlying reasoning for why solutions work and develop their problem-solving abilities hand, solving problems step by step. I find this is much better than just simply solving the particular problems you may come with.
My lessons are aimed at students from Middle School to High School as well as undergraduate students in mathematics and physics.
A typical lesson plan starts with going over any problems the student may have (homework, questions), before introducing them to the content they may be expected to know next. I find showing students new material before their class reaches it makes it feel less intimidating, and moves them from being behind to being ahead. I also love to showcase applications of the material at hand, using my own experiences as a doctoral student!
