About Michael

Hello. This is Michael Baskin and I am Number Sense Tutoring.

I teach kids that math can easily be figured out as opposed to rote memorization. Instead they learn different strategies as we examine the relationships and patterns that exist in numbers.

As a retired high school math teacher I have seen firsthand how struggling math students become paralyzed when we offer more of the same kind of instruction during help sessions or any additional practice.

At Number Sense Tutoring, I begin with a researched based assessment to tell me your child's current level of computational skills. This helps me identify gaps, and misunderstandings of essential concepts. From here I have great success showing kids how to change their thinking. Math suddenly becomes something to reason through rather than rote memorize.

At Number Sense I never charge for our first session (ITS FREE!) as the student/tutor relationship is that important.

My rates range from $30-$40 per hour depending on how frequently we meet per week. The more we meet the lower my hourly rate.

I currently have openings from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., M-Th, 9:00 to 5:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.

Many of my students have been with me for years growing and applying the strategies and patterns of math to more abstract math studied in high school.

I love helping kids achieve success with math and overcome the challenges it offers. It is very satisfying to me when the light comes on and a student "gets it", just as it did for me.

In addition to teaching strategies I also use the multifaceted approach of Singapore Math to show kids them the ideas of concrete, abstract and modeling mathematical ideas. So what are you waiting for? Call (concealed information) today.
