About Jamie
Throughout my time at school, the best way I learned was through teaching. This is because it forced me to properly structure my thinking when learning concepts and solving problems. This is a hugely important skill which I give to my students so that I am not just teaching content, but also teaching how to problem solve and study effectively for themselves. The vast majority of students I speak to appreciate the fact that, as a recent student myself, I can more closely relate to learning this content for the first time and preparing for exam papers on the current spec.

My tutoring style is built on the belief that students learn maths and science best when they truly understand the concepts, rather than just memorisation. Unlike conventional methods that focus on repetition and rote learning, I know how to build critical thinking by guiding students through each topic with questions that help them discover solutions on their own. Lessons are structured to connect ideas across topics and form an understanding which makes intuitive sense to the student, rather than just following a textbook. I develop students’ abilities to build and articulate new thoughts logically - which is vital for success in STEM outside the exam hall. This allows me to understand how to best guide each individual. This approach not only improves grades but transforms how students approach problems and think independently. Lesson lengths vary with how long each student feels they can learn effectively for, but generally last between 30 minutes and an hour. I tutor GCSE maths, physics, biology and computer science (AQA, OCR, Edexcel). I also tutor A-Level computer science (AQA, OCR) The first free lesson will mainly be used for me to gauge an understanding of the student's current strengths and weaknesses, as well as giving them an opportunity to voice any preferences for their preferred lesson style. I will use this opportunity for us to briefly discuss a topic of the student’s choosing - so that we both get an idea of one another’s communication style while working through content or problems.
