About Nicole

I am the English assistant at a high school in Saint Priest. I'm American but I have studied French since the age of 14. To become the English assistant here in Lyon, I completed an extensive application for a program called the "TAPIF" (Teaching Assistant Program in France). This "TAPIF" is organized by the French Embassy in the United States. This application required recommendations from my former university professors, my official transcript, a large well-organized essay and lots of other information. They accept applicants in April and I was accepted right away. I have already private lessons in English while traveling in Italy and France. It has always worked out very well!

About the lesson

In my classes at the high school, I emphasize the fact that errors are absolutely necessary. Maybe you think, "No, the goal is not to make mistakes!" But I do not at all agree. There are too many students who are afraid to speak because they don't dare make a mistake. This line of thought is absurd. When you make a mistake, someone usually corrects you, and you remember the correction next time. Or maybe it takes 3 or 4 times to be corrected and then you remember. Eventually, thanks to mistakes, we learn. Learning a language is not a matter of perfection but rather of repetition and persistence. The goal at the end is to be understood, not to speak without error. I teach people from age 12 to 90. I make lessons about what interests the specific age group of my student. For example, at the high school I often teach lessons on American rap songs. I am passionate about music, painting, literature (all languages), comedians and comedy, cinema, etc. I use all these art forms in order to inspire passion for languages in my students.
