About Alex

3D Artist and Lighter with 10 years experience in feature film vfx and animation. I have also taught lighting and rendering in Maya and Arnold, as well as fundamentals of 3d modelling in Maya, focusing on hard surface modelling but also organic and character modelling.

About the lesson

I emphasize students understanding of 3d space and form. I like to relate 3d modelling to real world architectural drafting, and encourage the student to break down models into simpler components. For organic modelling specifically I recommend beginning with lower polycount model and gradually introducing more detail, rather than trying to replicate all the subtleties of a shape on the fly while working. This also helps to create proper topology and edge flow.
