About Adolfo
I have experience teaching music classes at the University of Minnesota, Knox College, at Guarulhos Conservatory (in Brazil) and played concerts in many parts of the United States and in other countries such as France, Brazil, Chile and Mexico. I have also taught several guest lectures in some of the very best universities and conservatories in the world, such as University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Northern Iowa, Universidade de São Paulo, São Paulo State School of Music, Universidad de Chile and several more. More than that, I have been teaching piano for more than 20 years and so far I have taught more than 300 students of all levels with ages going from 5 - 85 years old! As a performer, I received awards in the United States (from Downbeat magazine) and Brazil (at a national piano competition). I had music collaborations with some of the best musicians in the United States and my music received positive reviews from US and Brazilian music media. I played in several jazz and pop festivals in the US and in Brazil, in addition to many important venues in more than 20 years of career as a musician. My music was recently featured at the CDs of Winter 2023 and Spring 2024 issues of JAZZIZ magazine (others included in those CD are Chick Corea, Eliane Elias, Ivan Lins, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Michael Brecker, etc).

I won't take 7 days to learn to play, but with the right resources and instruction you will make your learning process more efficient and less stressful.
We will create a plan based on your needs and interests, which can include a customized set of skills that can include things such as improvisation, harmony, reading skills, aural skills, music analytical skills, keyboard programming and the list goes on - won't do ALL of that, just what should be effective for YOUR goal.
I can help you to make your learning process efficient and relevant to YOUR interests and needs. For more than 20 years, have helped students interested in jazz, classical music, Brazilian music, commercial music, playing alone, playing in a band, playing at the church, having a better understand about music theory and harmony, getting music production skills and more. Please, don't assume that I only work with students in a certain level - I have taught MANY beginners and also MANY advanced students.
Minimum recommended age for online lessons: 10 years old, but there might be exceptions.
Review
All of our reviews are collected by us and are 100% reliable. They correspond to a real experience lived by the teacher's students.
Perfect! I studied with him for some time, and it was one of the most valuable learning experiences I’ve had. Instead of just showing me what to play, he helped me understand how music actually works. We focused a lot on creativity, improvisation, and piano arrangement, and that completely changed how I approached both jazz and other styles like pop and rock.
What stood out was how he adapted everything to my level. In the beginning, I worked on creative exercises, reading, and coordination, and as I improved, we moved more into improvisation and analysis. We always used repertoire, but in a way that helped me think and understand, not just repeat.
He has a very strong background as he taught at places like the University of Minnesota and the American University in Cairo and I know he has been teaching for decades.
He helped me to become independent as a musician and learner. I was able to learn music on my own, felt more confident playing with others, and understood what I was doing.
I would definitely recommend him to anyone who wants to really understand music and become more creative, not just follow instructions.View more reviews

I took Adolfo's classes in the Jazz and Harmony course, and they were fundamental in the completion of my graduation thesis, where I managed to create arrangements for big band, even though my training at the time was focused on concert music and classical singing. His classes were always very comprehensive and provided a critical perspective on the topics studied. During the lessons, Adolfo gave us valuable guidance on how to structure presentations of work and projects, which was essential for my academic and professional development. I am very grateful for these classes
He is fun to take lessons from and a very talented person
Adolfo is an amazing virtual piano teacher for my kids. Not only is he a talented piano player himself, but he's also incredibly patient and passionate about teaching. He's always coming up with new ways to challenge and motivate my kids to improve their skills, and they've made so much progress under his guidance.
Adolfo has helped them understand music theory and technique in a way that's accessible and fun, and they've gained so much confidence as a result. I'm excited to see where their musical journey takes them next.
Mr. Adolfo has been my mentor for over 10 years and has the ability to explain the most complex things in a simple and objective way. He also has a lot of experience in performing on stage, which ends up contributing to experienced students.
I’ve been studying piano since 2010, and when I found Adolfo, in 2021, I developed another playing style, learned new techniques and learned more not only about piano but music in general!
Very good musicista and kind person, one of the best in this site.My name is Carlos Bandeira dos Santos, I would like to thank Professor Adolfo for the event and lecture given, it was a day of lots of learning and exchanges. thanks.
Adolfo is someone truly guided by the power of music and the culture, memories and emotion it provides. His works are derivative of his most profound experiences, interests and it's something you can feel even without words. It all translates to a rich repertory full of knowledge that every music student desires. Not only that, he's truly empathic with each of his students and tries to understand their objectives to further push them to what they truly need. All around, an excellent teacher and a fantastic artist!
I highly recommend Adolfo as an exceptional piano instructor. His deep knowledge of music theory, coupled with his patient and engaging teaching style, has significantly improved my understanding and skills in playing the piano. He's also fantastic at teaching music production and harmony, which has broadened my understanding of music as a whole. If you're looking to get better at piano, Adolfo is definitely the person to go to!
Adolfo was my piano teacher many years ago. He was absolutely instrumental in my music career. Not only he helped me evolve in a big way as a pianist/keyboardist, but he also prepared me to enter a prestigious music school in Brazil at the University of Sao Paulo, where I got my Bachelors of Music in Piano. He is absolutely great at considering what you want to achieve on the instrument and helping you to get there. I can’t recommend him enough.
I am a student at the university of Minnesota Morris and had jazz piano lessons with Adolfo for a semester. Adolfo was kind and flexible but also pushed me to learn in ways I wouldn’t have gotten from watching YouTube tutorials.
Adolfo is a great musician, with vast knowledge of jazz, an excellent, dedicated and extremely responsible teacher. If you want to take jazz classes and other styles, I recommend Adolfo.
