About Maria
I’m a PhD researcher with experience teaching university statistics and psychology and mentoring students individually. My work brings together scientific questions, mathematical reasoning, programming and data analysis, and I enjoy helping others develop the skills to explore these areas themselves.
I have taught students with a wide range of backgrounds, ranging from nursing and social science students with limited mathematical experience to MSc computer science students. This has taught me the importance of finding an explanation that connects with what each person already understands. My psychology teaching was also recognised through inclusion on my university’s list of Teachers Ranked as Excellent by Their Students.
I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and working through difficulties openly. What motivates me as a teacher is helping someone make sense of an idea that initially felt inaccessible—and develop the confidence to take the next step independently.

I am a PhD researcher with university teaching and mentoring experience in statistics and psychology. I have worked with students from a wide range of academic backgrounds, including those with limited mathematical experience, and adapt my explanations to each student’s starting point.
My approach is to build understanding from basic principles, using concrete examples, visual demonstrations and guided practice to make complex ideas accessible. We’ll identify where you get stuck, work through problems together, and build towards solving them independently. There is plenty of room for questions, discussion and trying a different explanation when something hasn’t clicked.
I offer secondary-school maths and science, alongside more advanced support in statistics, psychology and R programming.
Lessons can last 45 to 60 minutes, though I'm flexible on adapting the time window. The goal will be to focus on your goals, whether that means strengthening foundations, starting challenging material or preparing for assessments.
