About Nandini
Hi! My name is Nandini, and I’m currently an Economics student at UC Berkeley. I’ve always enjoyed working with younger students and high schoolers! I have spent several years tutoring at Kumon, teaching both math and reading to students of different ages and abilities. I’ve also coached elementary and middle school debate, which has strengthened my ability to communicate clearly, stay patient, and connect with different personalities.
As a tutor, I’m encouraging and approachable, but I also want my students to challenge themselves and become more independent over time. Having taken advanced math and statistics courses and worked with data and statistical analysis in a university research setting, I have a strong academic foundation while still remembering what it feels like to learn these concepts for the first time.
More than anything, I want students to feel comfortable working with me. I’m someone who will celebrate their progress, take their questions seriously, and make learning feel much less stressful.

My name is Nandini, and I’m currently studying Economics at UC Berkeley. Math has been a consistent part of my education, from taking courses like AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP Microeconomics, and AP Macroeconomics in high school to using statistics and R for research at UCLA. Because I’ve worked with math in different settings, I try to help students see it as something they can actually understand and apply rather than just a set of formulas they need to memorize.
I also have several years of experience working at Kumon, where I taught both math and reading to students ranging from young children developing foundational skills to older students working through more challenging material. Teaching students at very different levels taught me how important it is to adjust my approach to the individual student. Some students need a concept broken down visually, while others learn best by working through examples or understanding the reasoning behind each step.
A typical lesson starts with figuring out what the student already understands and where they are getting stuck. From there, I break problems into manageable steps, work through examples with them, and then give them the opportunity to solve similar problems independently. I can help with foundational arithmetic, fractions, algebra, geometry, statistics, precalculus, and introductory calculus, along with homework, test preparation, and general study skills.
What I care about most is making students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. My goal is not only to help them get the right answer, but to make sure they understand how they got there so they can approach the next problem with more confidence and independence.
