About Julian

Before my veterinary degree, I grew up attending public schools with less stellar reputations and often struggled with learning in a classroom. I hated information that-seemed-irrelevant-to-my-life hurled at me with zero attempts at making learning fun and consequently, my grades suffered for that. By some miracle, I was accepted into the BVetMed course in RVC but was plagued with worry that I would never complete the course given my academic track record.

Fast forward to today, I'm glad to announce that I made it, managed to achieved distinctions year-on-year throughout my veterinary degree (an achievement which never happened to me before), graduated with Honours and was even awarded the prestigious Betuel Award for being First Place Over All Years on the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine Degree course at the Royal Veterinary College.

However, this required lots of blood, sweat, time and tears to figure out a strategy to distill and organise huge chunks of information into an accessible way for my mind. Importantly, my journey helped me realise that being 'academic' is not about innate talent but rather, having the proper study technique.

Since then, I genuinely believe that every student is capable of achieving their academic goals with the right mindset, technique and guidance, tailored to the individual. Hence, It has since become my mission to help other students who share the same academic struggles as me excel through techniques I learned beyond the school structure. It would be my pleasure to be a part of your exciting learning journey ahead.

About the lesson

My experience - I have given over 26 hours of veterinary interviews and personal statement tutoring. Through this, I have had the pleasure of helping my students gain veterinary medicine offers from universities such as the Royal Veterinary College, University of Liverpool and Harper-and-Keele. My students have described me as approachable, friendly, organised, knowledgeable and integral in their learning journey!

The Lesson - I am a strong believer in practice and application. Hence, my lessons would be a combination of theory backed with useful applications, coupled with practical scenarios (in the form of role playing, case studies, etc.) so that we can learn how to apply all this new information in a fun and engaging way. At the end of each topic, I would like to conduct a mock interview/ practice exam to gauge my student's performance so that we'll know if we need to place more attention on certain areas or continue moving along!

Details - I tutor in veterinary-related subjects, veterinary interview coaching and personal statement reviews. Lessons would often be around 1 to 2 hours long and generally conducted over an online video calling platform.

Perfect! I would highly recommend Julian as a tutor. He is very student-led, taking time to understand the student's needs and requests and also the journey they are on, to establish a tailored approach to learning. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about science and veterinary practice - which was very motivational for my son George, age 11 (who wants to be a vet when he is older). He has a calm, methodical approach , putting the student at ease and making the learning environment open and fun. George is looking forward to more sessions with Julian in the future to help him achieve his dream. I have no doubt that Julian will also be a fantastic vet - kind, caring and attentive.
