About Therese
Hello! My name is Therese, and I am currently a biochemistry major at University of California, Irvine. Before transferring to UCI, I attended Irvine Valley College, where I earned my Associate’s degree in Natural Sciences and Biology. My academic journey has given me strong experience in biology, chemistry, laboratory work, and STEM coursework, while also teaching me the importance of patience, organization, and persistence when learning difficult subjects. Because I recently completed many of the same courses myself, I can relate to the struggles students may face and explain concepts in ways that are approachable and practical. I am passionate about helping students succeed academically and making science feel more accessible and less intimidating!

My teaching method focuses on building understanding rather than memorization. I believe that students learn best when complex scientific concepts are broken down into manageable steps and connected to real-world examples. My tutoring sessions emphasize active learning through practice problems, guided explanations, visual aids, and interactive discussion. I also adapt my teaching style to match each student's learning pace and academic needs. A typical lesson begins with reviewing previous material and identifying areas where the student may be struggling. Sessions often end with a short review, study tips, and independent practice strategies to reinforce understanding outside of tutoring. What sets me apart as a tutor is that I am able to relate to students as someone who has recently completed the same challenging coursework myself. As a transfer student pursuing a demanding STEM degree, I understand the pressures students face and strive to create a supportive, encouraging learning environment where questions are welcomed and mistakes are treated as opportunities to learn.

Perfect! Very good at explaining concepts, has patience, prepared and does a good job showing examples.
- Respectful, willing to learn, and asks questions when confused. Shows good effort during lessons and is improving understanding by staying engaged! Make sure to be practicing problems more consistently outside of tutoring sessions to build confidence and speed. Reviewing foundational algebra skills and showing all work step-by-step would also help strengthen understanding of more advanced topics!See the response Therese :
