About Sophia

Hi there! I am a Biomedical Science graduate, with 1st Class Hons with placement from University of Bath.
I studied Biology + Chemistry A-level and Biology, Chemistry, Physics at GCSE level, so I am available to teach at those levels and below for those subjects! I also have 1.5 year's experience working in the laboratory first-hand in Australia for my placement year.

I am a bubbly, friendly person with lots of experience working with children. I have worked 2 summers at a camp in America, a Christmas at Lapland and taught in a Saturday Greek School. These experiences working with children, in addition to my 5 years tutoring experience, have strengthened my communication skills and allowed me to be more approachable and patient with my lessons.

About the lesson

I have a relaxed teaching approach, often student-guided to tackle the key areas they need assistance with. I am approachable and will happily walk through any tricky areas step by step accompanied with exam-style questions to fully prepare the student for their exams.

I love to use colourful and exciting diagrams to help visually explain the subject areas I am teaching. I believe it is very important to build a friendly and comfortable relationship between student and teacher so they are able to question and get the most out of a lesson!

One student that stands out in particular achieved above her target grades for GCSE after our lessons for 6 months. She was predicted B/Cs and ended up with A/A*s in sciences! She therefore carried Biology and Chemistry on to AS level, something she originally never thought she could do. Two of my other students also achieved their target grades to aid them getting into their desired 6th form college.

5 years experience teaching Biology/Chemistry/Physics at the Year 7-9 (KS3) and GCSE level.
3 years experience teaching Biology + Chemistry A-level (AS, A2).

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

I had a very enjoyable lesson with Jasmine; it was great helping her to understand tricky concepts and rewarding to see her get the correct answer with harder example practice questions!
