About Erik

I am a biotechnology and microbiology professional with hands-on experience in molecular biology, microbial strain development, and biochemistry research. Over the past several years, I have worked in biotechnology laboratory environments focused on microbial engineering, experimental design, data analysis, and biological systems relevant to human health and industrial biotechnology applications.

My background allows me to help students move beyond memorization and truly understand how biological and biochemical systems work at both the conceptual and practical level. I specialize in helping high school, college, and university students build confidence in subjects including biology, biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, and biotechnology.

I especially enjoy helping students who feel overwhelmed by complex scientific topics by breaking difficult concepts into clear, understandable explanations that connect theory to real-world biological research and biotechnology applications. Whether you need help preparing for exams, understanding metabolic pathways, interpreting experimental data, improving lab reports, or strengthening your understanding of molecular and cellular biology, I aim to create a supportive and highly effective learning environment tailored to your goals.

My teaching approach emphasizes dialogue and active learning to enhance your critical thinking, scientific reasoning, and long-term understanding so you can succeed not just in your coursework, but also in future scientific and healthcare careers.

About the lesson

By way of background, I have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Minnesota and have deep experience spanning enzyme characterization as well as broader microbiology, molecular biology, biochemical and organic chemistry concepts. While much of my recent research has been in the biotech industry, I’ve always enjoyed teaching, mentoring, and explaining complex topics in a clear, engaging way - whether to students, technicians, or cross-functional teams. For my teaching method, I like active learning environments for students where there is dialogue not just me talking. I can tailor my teaching style for high school students who want to have a firm foundation on biochemical concepts before becoming pre-med major, for example, to helping adults who may want to pivot into biotechnology roles.
