About Watkins
Music theory is often misunderstood, but it is just a map for your fingers. I confess that I prefer teaching through the songs that move you. We tackle fingerpicking patterns or blues progressions with steady, methodical steps.
You will learn to read tabs and sheet music while building strength for barre chords. Performance-focused students can expect honest critiques on their phrasing. I look forward to seeing you play with total confidence.

Actually, I think the best guitarists are the ones who stay grounded in the songs people love. I spent 22 years playing in Tex-Mex and Latin pop circuits before shifting my focus entirely to teaching. Being a musician means you never stop learning, which is why I have worked with 339 students over 19 years.
I enjoy helping absolute beginners find their footing just as much as I help working professionals refine their technique. My classroom is a space where we value the music over the ego. You will notice that I treat every performance focused student with the same dedication I give to a hobbyist. It is a simple, honest way to work.
