About Barret

I’ve taken voice lessons for most of my life, and I’ve taken composition lessons for the last 6 years of my life. My conservatory studies have familiarized me with many vocal styles such as classical, baroque, folk, and contemporary. Additionally, I’ve studied the international phonetic alphabet and vocal physiology, allowing me to to help the more technical students with complex issues and techniques. In addition to my fluency in traditional Western notation, I can also work with students on graphic scores, Chinese Jianpu notation, and more.

About the lesson

Every student has different needs and I can tailor my lessons to the repertoire you want to learn, in the way you want to learn it. Lessons will often cover ways to improve your diction, tone, breath support, and more.
For those interested, I am also intimately familiar with many extended techniques such as subtone singing, overtone singing, multiphonics, and more.

Mike came very prepared for the lesson! There is certainly work to do regarding intonation of non-diatonic notes (sharps/flats), but I think we are in a very good starting point.
