About Toby
About me:
I am Toby; a patient, approachable Software Engineering student and Computing Society President at Bournemouth University; originally a friendly Suffolk lad, now based in Dorset.
My technical background covers practical systems and applied mathematics; including Linux, Python, TypeScript, Dart, PHP, SCSS, SQL, and database management. Whether guiding GCSE science students or teaching A Level code, I focus on practical understanding, building genuine confidence, and making hard technical subjects deeply engaging.

About my lessons:
I teach by bridging high level concepts down to granular details; understanding the fundamental rationale behind a topic makes complex problem solving intuitive. I teach slightly beyond the syllabus; by mastering the overarching principles, you actually have to memorise far less while securing top marks. Every session is tailored directly to the student; I use live walkthroughs, guided exercises, and past paper practice to ensure complete comprehension. To lock in knowledge and expose hidden gaps, lessons end with you teaching the concept back to me.
* Recap and brain dump; a quick review to solidify prior material and build momentum
* Focused mini lecture; breaking down new topics from broad ideas to low level mechanics
* Interactive practice; quick questions, one live demo by me, and one assisted problem for you
* Reverse teaching; you explain the concept back to me to confirm full mastery
Lessons run between 1 to 3 hours based on your preference, though 1.5 hours offers the ideal balance.

GCSE Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry; A Level Computer Science and Software Engineering.
