About Harrison

Beginner players often struggle with the sheer volume of choices available on the board. I work with students who need a foundation in the basics before they can advance to tournament play.

My 13 years of experience have taught me that chess success depends on consistent practice rather than luck. I have taught 465 students by emphasizing tactical patterns, piece coordination, and tournament preparation.

My degree from the University of Chicago provides the analytical rigor needed to explain middlegame planning, board vision, and pattern recognition. I also focus on endgame technique, calculation, and visualization to keep games under control. I look forward to helping you improve.

You should expect your time to be spent dissecting the board to understand why specific moves work while others fail. I view the game as a series of structured decisions that require patience and discipline. Because I hold a BSc Mathematics from the University of Chicago, my teaching style is analytical and heavily focused on the underlying logic of every position. We will use a study plan tracked week to week to ensure that your progress remains visible throughout our time together.

I break down tactical patterns and endgame technique into manageable steps. My goal is to make sure you understand the math behind the position. Let me know if you would like to arrange an introductory meeting. We can start by reviewing your recent games to identify your current strengths.
