About Marc
I have 15 years of experience tutoring students at various stages of their education: middle school, high school, college, and graduate school! It's something I love to do and have had great success with. The students I have tutored have come away with the understanding and skills they needed to succeed in their classes and beyond, surpassing their own expectations in terms of grades and knowledge- and even enjoyment of what they were studying!
Having the unusual combination of engineering/math expertise and previous experience as a professional, highly-rated tour guide, I have great communications skills, with a special ability to explain complicated, technical jargon in plain English and in a clear, non-intimidating, and memorable way. An engaging teacher (and a fun guy, so they tell me), I promise to make our sessions highly enjoyable, as well as productive!
In addition to math, I have experience tutoring students in finance and can also teach MS Excel (& Google Sheets), in which I have high-level expertise.
I also now have experience tutoring over Zoom and other online platforms, with the knowledge of the technology and on-screen engagement to make it work!

I want to see you succeed in both the short-term and the long-term. My teaching is geared toward your immediate goals and needs, but also to giving you the tools and deep understanding that you'll need going forward - with me or without me.
My philosophy is that learning is most effective when done in a comfortable, positive environment with the "psychological safety" that allows students to be honest about their questions and confusion and learn from their mistakes. I see myself as a partner in your learning as much as a teacher.
The way I like to start a session is with an open-ended chance for us to discuss whatever is on your mind (in terms of the subject matter). I find that in a math subject that involves steps A, B, C, & D, talking before getting into things can reveal that the student has an issue with step C. Taking a look at step C first, can actually then make steps A and B go much smoothly. This also is true when the issue was step A from 2 chapters ago! Even if you were "supposed to" have already mastered the material, it's ok! Let's do what it takes to get you succeeding!
For the rest of our session, most students want to look at the material for the upcoming test or assignment. If that's the case, let's take a look at it together. But if you want a more open-ended style, I can also supply relevant examples and additional problems so that you'll come away with a true understanding of the material and concepts behind it. If quizzes are fun and effective for you, I can offer those too! My tutoring style is student-centered and highly customizable.
In general, my students and I get along! I have extensive experience working with middle school, high school, college, and even graduate students. Additionally I am father to Evelyn, a young girl who might already be better at math than me!

All of our reviews are collected by us and are 100% reliable. They correspond to a real experience lived by the teacher's students.
Perfect! Marc put me at ease with his clear explanations, and my Quantitative methods work was suddenly less scary and easy to tackle! I have more confidence in what I'm doing and looking forward to the next lesson.
- Tami is very smart woman earning a PhD in a very non-math field, but taking a college-level math course. Her enthusiasm and intellect made our sessions together very pleasant.See the response Marc :
Perfect! I have not had a math course in decades so learning college level business statistics online was not going very well. Marc has been able to break statistics down, stay patient, and apply everything I am learning to real concepts to help improve my understanding. I am no longer failing statistics. I recommend Marc for tutoring.
- Layla is an excellent student. Rusty with her math skills but very eager to learn and improve. Pleasant to talk to and to listen to!See the response Marc :

I have known Marc Seidenstein for over thirty years. During our long and close friendship I have known Marc to be exceptionally well versed in a variety of advanced subjects. Marc is one of the smartest people I know, and he is great at explaining difficult concepts in a way that makes them relatable. Beside his intelligence and teaching ability Marc is also friendly and kind and his students will enjoy spending time with him.
Marc is one of the best and most natural teachers I have ever known. He is kind, caring, patient, reliable, and completely trustworthy, qualities he also shows as a devoted husband and father. He is also extremely knowledgable and a gifted mathematician. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a tutor.
Marc is the best. He will explain a complex problem or situation with such passion, excitement, and interest that you will be sucked into his gravitational force and learn something new or acquire a new skill without even trying. He’s also one the most trustworthy, genuine, and intelligent people I’ve ever met. I would recommend him without hesitation or reservation.
I've known Marc since our college days, where his knack for untangling the most complex Algebra problems made him the unofficial tutor in our circle. On Superprof, he's the epitome of reliability and depth, turning abstract numbers into clear, digestible concepts. His lessons are more than just teaching; they're a journey through the world of Algebra with a guide who cares deeply about your understanding and success. I recommend Marc without hesitation to the Superprof community, for a learning experience that's as enriching as it is enjoyable.
His joy for teaching is unmatched and it shines through. He is brilliant but also knows how to make the material accessible and fun. Just an amazing teacher. Would highly recommend.
Marc and I took graduate level classes together at Harvard. He was always one of the top students in the class, and also the most generous with his time. I'm very blessed to have met him as I'm not sure I would have even passed at least one of those classes without him. He helped get me up to speed in class often better and more quickly than the hired TA's. He's an excellent teacher, always knows his stuff, and he's very comfortable and easy to be around. A room is always a bit safer and under control with Marc in it. He has a great sense of humor as well. Anyone hiring him as a tutor will be thankful they did.
