About Ignacio
Hi! I'm a Cambridge-based composer / pianist (LRSM).
I am happy to teach piano at all levels/ grades up to including LRSM /LCTL. Lots of my students do piano exams, but am completely flexible on this. We can do ABRSM / Trinity, I've also tutored GCSE composition and A-level composition and music theory. So far we've had a 100% pass rate, with usually over half of the candidates get merit / distinction.
Level wise most of my current studenra are about grades 5-7, with a few beginners and a few diploma students. About 25% also do jazz (lead sheets, improvising solos, standard chord turn arounds, etc...) - lately I'm trying to encourage others to try this too...
Age-wise everyone welcome (although less than 5yo tends to be too early...), we have a nice community evenly distributed between children, teenagers and adults . We also do an end-of-term student concert which is good fun, including piano duets and some time to hang out with the others.
With composition students my general approach is project-focused - via varied creative tasks of increased difficulty. This is complemented with general composition technique: first we make sure our chord /harmony knowledge is very secure, then we look at textures and building transitions, which is the essence of music arrangements, and melodic techniques. I do like to work on counterpoint alongside these above, but the amount of depth depends on the student's aims - it has to be practical. Larger aspects of music structure and orchestration are gradually introduced along the way.
We've also done quite a bit of analysis of chamber and orchestral works with different students. I'm looking at setting up little group classes for it this summer! Please ask for details....
And just generally, if you are curious about a particular musical technique, feel free to ask!!

Review
All of our reviews are collected by us and are 100% reliable. They correspond to a real experience lived by the teacher's students.
Perfect! What I like about Ignacio is that he knows teaching piano like a master and was able to identify my weakness and made a simple plan to follow and to overcome it. He has an impressive knowledge about pianos acoustic and electronic. He knew more than me about my four months old Roland LX 708. I was pleased!
Perfect! a good very good teacher
- Nika seems to be a very capable student. but I suggested she would benefit more from having lessons in person rather than webcam, given her technical needs.See the response Ignacio :

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
Coming to Ignacio a year ago as an intermediate level adult with big gaps in my technical understanding and ability. I've found him to be extremely knowledgable and able apply just the right amount of rigour and expertise to keep me moving forward at a good pace.
He's patient and encouraging, with an infectious and inspirational enthusiasm for the music. He organises regular - and popular - student concerts which provide great motivation and sense of community amongst us students. I see them as sign that he is a committed and engaged teacher.
From the beginning he was easy to deal with and a good communicator, and has proved to be flexible and reasonable when it comes to the inevitable diary difficulties.
I liked to work with Ignacio! He's very flexible and friendly tutor. He can easily adjust for any pupil's features, he can change key on the go and so on.
I recommend him very much!Ignacio is highly recommended piano teacher. I have lessons with Ignacio for a year. He was very helpful with my grade eight piano exam. Thanks to him.
