About Karol

I am a University of Cambridge Natural Sciences graduate and currently completing a PGCE, with over 10 years of tutoring experience in Chemistry and Mathematics.

I have supported students across GCSE, A-level, Further Maths and IB programmes, including students aiming for top grades, Oxbridge interviews and competitive university applications. Many of my students have achieved A/A* grades, grade 8/9s, or made significant progress from much lower starting points.

I started teaching because I enjoy making difficult ideas clear. I am especially good at identifying where a student’s understanding breaks down and rebuilding it step by step.

I actively use evidence-informed teaching techniques to help students retain knowledge, apply it confidently, and understand the reasoning behind each method rather than simply memorising content. I also have excellent knowledge of the relevant curricula, exam specifications and assessment requirements.

I would describe myself as a clear, patient and analytical tutor. My aim is to help students understand the subject properly, improve their exam performance, and become more confident and independent learners.

About the lesson

I help students build real understanding, strong problem-solving skills, and the confidence to apply them independently.

With over ten years of tutoring experience in Mathematics and Chemistry, I have worked with a wide range of students — from high achievers aiming for top grades to students who need extra structure, clarity and encouragement. I support learners across GCSE, A-level and international curricula, including IB, and prepare them thoroughly for assessments and external examinations. In my experience, ability is rarely the main issue. Most students improve significantly when lessons are clear, well-structured, carefully paced and adapted to how they think.

My lessons are:
• Example-heavy and carefully scaffolded
• Pitched at the right level, with both support and challenge
• Focused on reasoning, process and understanding — not memorisation
• Designed to build independence, confidence and exam technique

I use regular questioning and short checks for understanding throughout each lesson, so misconceptions can be addressed immediately. Each session usually begins with a brief review to strengthen retention and identify gaps. New material is introduced through clear modelling and worked examples, followed by guided practice and then more independent, exam-style questions. My approach is evidence-informed and draws on principles such as explicit instruction, retrieval practice, deliberate practice and structured feedback.

Students do not just learn how to answer a question — they learn how to think through problems clearly and confidently. Over time, this leads to stronger exam performance, greater resilience and genuine subject mastery.

Details

My hourly rate includes all the materials and prep time. For regular lessons I offer out of lesson support (I am happy to answer questions between our lessons and help on the go). I also regularly provide marking and exam feedback, especially in the run up to mocks/exams.

Moreover, I provide lesson notes in the PDF format for each lesson and, if requested, I can provide lesson recordings.
