About Saman
I am a composer, musicologist, and philosopher of music with a PhD in Music from the University of Cambridge. I have taught and supervised students at university level and have many years of private teaching experience in composition, music theory, piano, violin, improvisation, and musicianship.
My background combines creative practice, academic research, and practical teaching. I have written and performed music internationally, founded and directed ensembles, and worked with students of different ages and levels, from beginners to advanced university students. I am especially interested in helping students understand music clearly and confidently, whether they are preparing for exams, developing their compositional voice, improving their piano playing, or working on academic essays and applications.
My teaching style is calm, serious, supportive, and highly individual. I aim to give students both technical clarity and a deeper understanding of how music works.

My lessons are tailored to each student’s level, goals, and timescale. I teach through clear explanation, guided practice, score study, listening, written feedback, and discussion of the student’s own work where relevant. For music theory and exam preparation, I focus on secure understanding, practical exercises, and confident application. For composition, I work on structure, notation, harmony, rhythm, form, texture, and the development of a distinctive musical voice. For academic music students, I help with essay structure, argument, research framing, analysis, and writing style.
A typical lesson lasts one hour, though shorter introductory consultations and longer intensive sessions can be arranged when appropriate. I have a PhD in Music from the University of Cambridge and experience teaching and supervising students at university level, as well as private teaching experience in piano, theory, composition, improvisation, and musicianship.
My lessons are suitable for motivated beginners, GCSE and A-Level students, ABRSM theory candidates, university applicants, undergraduate and postgraduate students, adult learners, performers, and composers seeking serious feedback on their musical or academic work.
