About Ed

Hello! I'm Ed, a native English speaker from Sheffield, UK. I love meeting people from different cultures and helping them achieve their goals through English.

Outside of teaching, I'm a professional bagpipe player and have been performing and teaching music for over 30 years. I also enjoy hiking, travelling, cooking, and learning about different cultures. These experiences have taught me the importance of patience, communication, and creating a relaxed, enjoyable learning environment.

Whether you're learning English for work, travel, exams, or everyday life, I look forward to helping you build your confidence and enjoy the learning process.

About the lesson

My lessons are friendly, practical, and tailored to your individual goals. I believe the best way to learn English is through active communication, so I encourage students to speak as much as possible while providing support, feedback, and guidance to help them improve.

I use a learner-centred approach, helping students discover how English works through guided activities, examples, and real-life contexts. Rather than simply giving answers, I encourage students to notice patterns, develop their understanding, and become more independent learners.

Lessons are typically 60 minutes and are adapted to suit your level, learning style, and objectives. Whether you want to improve everyday English, build confidence speaking, prepare for exams, or develop your business English, I can help.

I am a Cambridge CELTA-qualified ESOL tutor and also hold a 120-hour TEFL qualification. I have experience teaching English online to students from different countries and backgrounds.

My lessons are suitable for children, teenagers, and adults from beginner to upper-intermediate levels, including general English, conversation practice, business English, and IELTS practice.

My 10 Yr old son started learning the bagpipes in January. He is thoroughly enjoying it and makes very good progress. We didn't know anything about bagpipes before, but Ed helped us so much to get the right Chanter and a suitable bagpipe for Finley. Ed is kind but determined with his teaching and Finley said:" I don't know why it's good, but it is just really good!"
Teaching the bagpipes doesn't seem to be only a job to Ed but a vocation- and that is rare these days.
