About Kirstin

Hello! I’m Kirstin and I come from Scotland. I offer personalised, fun and friendly lessons to teenagers and young adults who would like to become confident and comfortable communicators in English. Whether you are a beginner, have been learning for a long time, or are somewhere in the middle, I am happy to help!

I have a first-class degree in French and a Postgraduate Certificate in Translation Studies. I am CELTA-qualified (Pass A), TEFL-certified, and I have experience working in several different secondary schools in France, helping students discover an interest in the English language, improve their skills, and have fun at the same time. I currently work in the UK with young asylum seekers who are new to the country and, most of the time, to English.

I have been learning French for many years and I have always been very nervous when speaking. This has made it very difficult for me to improve. My goal is to encourage people who feel the same about English, by creating a safe space for them to take risks, stop worrying, enjoy themselves, and practise, practise, practise!

About the lesson

I am offering fun and engaging 1-hour sessions on Zoom. I focus on helping teenagers and adults to speak comfortably and confidently. I will want to know your reasons for improving your spoken English because this will help me plan what we do together. My goal is to remove the language barrier that is preventing you from doing what you want to do.

You can therefore expect me to: 1) create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere 2) be consistently supportive, encouraging, non-judgmental and patient 3) bring a wide range of enjoyable activities to our lessons 4) adapt lessons to help you with anything you’re worried about or finding difficult at the time 5) plan lessons that are focused on your interests, goals, preferences and needs 6) make you see that learning a language doesn't have to be boring!

There are so many reasons why you might want to improve your English. Maybe it’s for school, exams, or university. Maybe you are really interested in anglophone culture, or you want to travel the world. Maybe it's something else! If you send me a message, we can get talk more about what you are looking for, and come up with a plan.
