I believe the most effective way to ensure student learning starts with truly knowing my students. Knowing their likes, dislikes, background, hobbies, accomplishments, fears, personality traits, and learning styles. Ithink it is important to nurture and develop a relationship of mutual trust and respect with every one of my students. I help my students to develop the same level of respect between themselves as well, to create a safe environment in which they are not afraid ask for assistance when they need it, or to step out of their comfort zones and participate in group learning activities.
I believe the teacher is a facilitator, there to guide them and encourage them, as they work collaboratively with their peers. Having them work together helps them develop skills they will use throughout their life. It helps them develop confidence, become independent thinkers, and effective communicators. My ultimate goal as an educator is to give my students the skills they need to be effective problem solvers with a life-long passion for learning.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, and two Master's Degrees, one in Reading Education and one in Educational Leadership. My certifications included: Elementary K - 6, ESE K - 12, Reading K - 12, Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum, as well as the Gifted and ESOL endorsements. I am also in the process of adding Educational Leadership at this time.
I have taught students with Autism, Severe Learning Disabilities, Hearing Impairments, Behavior Difficulties, Specific Learning Disabilities, Physical Impairments, and Other Health Impairments. In addition, I have worked with students that were identified as Gifted or Gifted/Learning Disabled as well as General Education Students.
I have experience as a General Education Teacher, an ESE Co-Teacher, an ESE full-time classroom teacher, Administrative Resource Teacher, and Staffing Specialist. I am a trainer for Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Behavior Modification.
I utilize assessments to determine a student's strengths and weaknesses and create differentiated lessons that include a variety of learning styles and accommodations to ensure they develop the tools and skills needed to be successful, life-long learners.
