About Pranay

I am a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from IIT Hyderabad and currently a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Kharagpur. I also hold an M.Tech. in Industrial Pollution Control from NITK Surathkal and a B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering.

I have academic and teaching experience in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, including teaching-assistant experience in Chemical Reaction Engineering and Applied Chemistry laboratories, where I helped students understand experimental procedures and fundamental concepts.

My research experience spans heterogeneous catalysis, chemical reaction engineering, materials synthesis and characterization, CO₂ conversion, photocatalysis, and advanced functional materials. I currently work on catalyst design and CO₂ valorization, while also mentoring researchers and students.

My teaching focuses on strong fundamentals, conceptual clarity, problem-solving, and practical applications. I adapt the pace and depth of each class to the student's level, whether they are starting from the basics or preparing for advanced university-level topics.

I welcome students from Classes 10–12, competitive-exam preparation, undergraduate and postgraduate Chemistry, and Chemical Engineering. My goal is to make challenging topics understandable and help students become confident and independent problem solvers.

My Teaching Approach

I believe Chemistry and Chemical Engineering become much easier when concepts are understood clearly rather than memorized. My teaching approach focuses on building strong fundamentals, developing problem-solving skills, and connecting theoretical concepts with real-world applications.

Concept-first learning: I explain concepts step by step, starting from the fundamentals and gradually moving toward advanced topics.
Visual and practical explanations: I use diagrams, reaction mechanisms, examples, and applications to make difficult concepts easier to understand.
Problem-solving focused: Students are guided through problems systematically, with emphasis on understanding the approach rather than simply memorizing formulas.
Interactive learning: I encourage students to ask questions and actively participate during the class.
Personalized teaching: The pace and depth of teaching are adjusted according to the student's current level, learning objectives, and academic requirements.
Exam-oriented preparation: For students preparing for school and competitive examinations, classes can include important concepts, numerical practice, previous-year questions, and structured revision.
Typical Class Structure

A typical class follows a simple and structured approach:

Quick recap of previously covered concepts.
Introduction of the new topic and its relevance.
Detailed concept explanation using examples and visual aids.
Worked examples and numerical problems to develop understanding.
Student practice and discussion to identify and address difficulties.
Summary and key takeaways at the end of the class.
Practice questions/homework when required.
What Makes My Teaching Different

My focus is not only on completing the syllabus but on helping students understand why a concept works and how to apply it. I try to create a learning environment where students can comfortably ask questions and gradually develop confidence in solving unfamiliar problems.

With an academic and research background in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, I can also introduce advanced concepts and real-world applications wherever they are relevant, helping students see how classroom fundamentals connect with higher education, research, and industry.
