About Amaan

I am a MChem student at The University of Manchester. My favourite things to do in my spare time is going to the gym, going rock climbing, hiking and cooking (especially brownies hehe)

I specialise in chemistry but I can also help with maths and geography too!

About the lesson

- Lessons are delivered through interactive power points which both the student and i can draw on.

- Before the lesson, i will provide hand mate notes and cheat sheets to look over - these can be kept as revision resources.

- Cherry picked exam questions r chosen to effectively tackle students' weaknesses and give them content fluency, confidence and exam technique.

- My lessons are for anyone aged 11-18

- Experience:
1)GCSE Mathematics tutor, Woodhouse College (Sept 2021 –
Sept 2023):

o Tutored a small group of students (5-6) for GCSE Higher
Mathematics. This included working thru past papers
plus exam questions I had created myself.

o This was part of a Tutor buddy scheme between
Woodhouse College, where I studied my A-Levels, and
Archer Academy - a local secondary school.

2) A-Level Chemistry tutor, Woodhouse College (Sept 2021 –
Sept 2023)

o Tutored 2 GCSE students for maths, achieving top grades
(8s). Continued tutoring in A-level chemistry when they
joined the college. Provided engaging and exciting
lessons, fostering academic growth and achievement.

o These lessons included handmade cheatsheets & revision
notes for students to read before a lesson which was
then followed up with cherry picked exam questions
based on their individual needs. All media (cheatsheets
and exam questions) were stored on an open OneNote
folder so students could freely annotate any digital
recourses.

o A main way I approached learning was through
discussion-based learning, allowing my students to
bounce off of each other and reach the answer
themselves. I also focused on teaching new content from
first principles (i.e. linking everything back to the basics
and/or relevant theory) - this massively helped solidify
learning and understanding whilst also preventing the
mindless memorisation of exam methods.

3) PASS Mentor, The University of Manchester:

o Created tailored small group study sessions for first year
students to help bridge the gap between A-level study
and university level study. I acted in both an academic
and pastoral capacity to ensure my mentees’ transition
from A-Level and growth as students was as smooth as
possible.

- Qualifications;
- A*AA in chemistry, maths and geography A-Level respectively
- GOLD in the international chemistry olympiad
- All 9s and 8s at GCSE
