I went from a C student in high school to an A student in college. I can relate to the struggle, and I want to help young students like I once was reach their goals. Finding motivation can be difficult when you are struggling with a subject, and my goal is to get you to a point where you can enjoy the subject. I am a Kinesthetic Learner, which is a fancy way of saying that I learn by doing. Which is going to be what I implement in my lesson plans. I believe that the most efficient way to master a subject is through practice. A typical lesson plan would be: - Starting off with a conceptual check and review; I do this first to understand how much my student already understands, and to review relevant topics. - Next, I would go over the topic of the session; with my personalized approach, I now understand where my student is at and what they need in order to understand the topic. - After spending some time going over it, we would work on a lot of examples together; like I have mentioned, the most efficient way to learn Math and Chemistry is through tons of practice. This would be a good time to work on my student’s homework problems. - Lastly, we would spend some time summarizing what we covered in our session, and briefly discuss how to move forward.

My name is Kyle Arriola and I had the pleasure of being Leiv Ragnar’s instructor for CHEM 210 Organic Chemistry I course during the Fall 2023 semester at MiraCosta College. Currently, I serve as a tenure-track organic chemistry instructor at MiraCosta College. The section I taught with Leiv was a hybrid-format course with in-person laboratory sessions and online, asynchronous lecture sessions.
I recommend Leiv for participation in Superprof for the following reasons:
Leiv is adept in his studies and earned an excellent grade in my class. I am confident he would apply himself well in Superprof, know the material well enough to teach it, and also give accurate information to his students.
Leiv helped foster community within the classroom. Leiv initiated and maintained healthy relations with his classmates, freely guiding his lab partner and other classmates. He advocated for himself and his classmates if there was confusion about the experimental procedure or course material. I believe this character trait of his would allow him to be an effective teacher, as he is sensitive towards others in a learning environment, a quality vital in educators.
Leiv is curious. I always encourage my organic chemistry students to ask the “hows” and “whys”. Too often do I see students trying to memorize their way through organic. Leiv is outstanding in that he desires an understanding of the material – of science – when tackling the material. I welcomed his occasional scientific questions unrelated to the present day’s material, questions regarding the chemistry behind renewable energy, atmospheric chemistry, materials science, and more. I believe he will impart this curiosity and drive for understanding unto his own students, helping his students not only in the “now”, but also for the future.
The things I see in Leiv are not limited to the above, and I hope he is given an opportunity to aid students of his own. His inquisitive nature, personable character, and determination are bound to make him a valuable addition to Superprof.
Leiv is a trustworthy, talented teacher because he comes with many skills. Patient being one of them, every student has their own pace and way of learning and I have experienced challenges with certain subjects and Leiv has been very helpful, knowledgeable and patient.

I have a hectic schedule, which means that I drive a lot. I will not charge a fee for driving if the session is not too far out of my way.
