About Justin

I gave tutoring lessons from Aug. 2018 to Apr. 2019 as a tutor at my community college. Through these lessons, I tutored various age groups and adapted to many different learning styles. I wished to stay and tutor at the college, but moving colleges affected this possibility. I would tutor at minimum 1 student a day and tutored twice a week. Often, I would help students I connected well with out of the classroom and just help them get through their college experience. Tutoring for me is not just the role tutors perform, but also a job where life-long connections are made. Whenever I would tutor a student, the session always lasted a minimum of 45 minuets and I would often stay passed my clocked (paid) hours to help students grasp their education. Other than that, I can say I had my fair share of struggles during education. With that in mind, I share the struggles and possibly have been through some of the situations you may very well be in. I say this to demonstrate that we all have our difficulties, no matter how we may appear. I look forward to assisting you!!!

About the lesson

It will depend if I am teaching a group or if I am teaching individual students.

If in a group, I will first introduce the topic being discussed by conceptually explaining the topic both through words and visually. After I have explained the concept of a topic, I will then continue to do a few problems utilizing that concept. Afterwards, I will see if students can solve similar problems and if unable, find what the group misunderstood, re-explain it in the same way and different ways, then continue onwards and see if the students can now solve some similar problems. I believe participation in solving problems is key to conceptual understandings, so I will encourage all to help out in solving a problem.

If with an individual, I will first see where the student is struggling at. After seeing where the student is struggling at, I will introduce the basic fundamentals to the concept, ensuring the student understands such, then get to where the student is having trouble. I will often first give the student a problem to solve utilizing that concept without help to identify the key struggles they have. Throughout my time of tutoring them, I will establish his or her best way of learning - either visually, auditorial, kinesthetically, or logically (realistic applications of problems) - and tutor them through such methods.
