About Sofia

I am a PhD student in Chemical Biology at Imperial College London shortly, developing new targeted cancer therapeutics. I recently graduated top of my class with a First in Chemistry (BSc Hons) from the University of Edinburgh. I find science fascinating, and it gives me joy to share my enthusiasm with others! It’s very rewarding to see people grasp difficult concepts when alternative explanations are explored. At school, I felt constrained by the syllabus which made me unwilling to learn. Dedicated teachers and tutors showed me that actually there's a lot more to education than what's taught at school. I went from a student with a C at AS Level Chemistry, to an A grade at A Level and culminating in graduating from the University of Edinburgh as the top Chemistry student in my year. There are a lot of students in this position, and I want to help them realise how great science can be. I hold an Enhanced DBS Check.

About the lesson

Explaining sciences to GCSE and A Level students in an engaging manner that allows students to understand through fun and interesting concepts. I am skilled at clearing up confusion by connecting to real world examples. I am available to assist in a number of ways from explaining difficult topics and concepts, to helping with homework and exam prep. I feel that it's very important to fully understand concepts, which doesn't necessarily come immediately after you get taught something at school. I like to run through any challenges that week at school before moving onto homework based questions.
