About Ethan

My chess journey began at the age of 6, learning the moves from my grandpa over an old wooden board. Those early games sparked a lifelong love for the strategy, creativity, and pure fun of chess. This passion led me to competitive play, where I was fortunate enough to earn a 3rd place finish in an Australian National Schools Championship. While I'm proud of that achievement, my true goal now is to pass on the enjoyment of the game that my grandfather gave to me. I believe chess is for everyone. Whether you're a complete beginner looking to learn the rules, a school student wanting to improve, or an adult seeking a new mental challenge, I can provide a supportive and enjoyable environment to learn.

About the lesson

Drawing upon my knowledge as a Professional Academic Tutor (1500+ hours), my lessons are designed to be patient, engaging, practical, and, most importantly, fun! We will focus on building a strong foundation and then developing the skills you're most interested in. A typical lesson with me includes:

Interactive Learning: We'll spend most of our time playing and analyzing games together.

Focused Concepts: Each session will cover a key concept (e.g., basic opening principles, common tactical motifs, endgame techniques, analyzing your own games).

Tailored to You: Lessons are completely adaptable to your goals, whether that's preparing for a tournament or just playing for enjoyment.

A Positive Environment: Chess can be challenging, but my focus is on encouragement and celebrating progress.

I am happy to teach all ages and skill levels, from absolute beginners to intermediate players looking to break into club play.

I provide lessons online via video call for maximum flexibility. I offer affordable pricing because I believe financial constraints should never be a barrier to learning this amazing game.
