About Caleb
I have stood toe to toe against titled players, and continue to play at a high level. My record speaks for itself - two state championships, two Top-15 PanAmerican team finishes, and multiple years of teaching and mentoring.
Professionalism and punctuality are extremely important to me - I work full time as a civil engineer, and pride myself in delivering high-quality services to my clients. I will do nothing less for my students.
With me, you can get lessons from a high-quality player without paying the rates charged by titled players. I hope to hear from you soon!

Lessons are targeted for 800-1600 level players - this will include techniques such as undefended pieces, piece coordination, pawn play, piece improvement, and more.
A typical lesson will look like this (but is subject to change based on learning styles):
1. Student will bring a recent match notation to go over with me. If they do not have one, we will play a live game and notate it, then review after.
2. I will choose an area of improvement to focus on based on the game.
3. I will teach on this topic for the remainder of the lesson with examples from high-level games and puzzles/scenarios.
I believe that the best way for a player to improve is to look at their own games and see where they could have made a better move, versus just watching high level players play. With one technique at a time, they will find their rating and skill rising quickly!
I have both high level tournament playing experience and teaching experience, which sets me apart from other tutors. This includes:
-Top 20 High School Players in the state of Minnesota at the MSCA tournament (2012-2016)
-Scoring member of 2 state championship teams in this time - served as team captain to mentor younger players
-Served as communication officer for the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Chess Club 2019-2020
-Qualified to represent the university at the PanAmerican Collegiate Chess Championships both years
-Taught chess lessons through Youth Enrichment League (2018-2019)
-Have played and won rated games in tournaments in the last year. My rating currently sits at about ~2000.
