About Lucy
Hi! My name is Lucy and I'm a freshman at Indiana University majoring in English. I've always had a passion for writing and reading, and I plan to take that passion and hopefully become a teacher or librarian one day. I am usually the person my friends or family go to when they need help editing their writing or giving feedback on essays. I helped my brother this year write his college essay for his rising senior summer assignment, and he got a 95%. I've been in the shoes of struggling with an essay, and with a little help, everyone should be able to succeed.

I believe that anyone can be a great writer; they just need the right tools to organize their thoughts. My teaching technique is highly collaborative, conversational, and stress-free. Instead of just fixing grammar mistakes for you, I use a step-by-step editing and brainstorming approach so you can actively learn how to elevate your writing. I focus on clarity, strong thesis statements, and making sure your unique voice shines through your essays.
Because every writer is at a different stage, my lessons are tailored to what you need that day. However, a standard session usually looks like this:
- Minutes 1–10: Goal Setting & Review. We discuss the essay prompt, review the rubric, and look at any work you have already started.
- Minutes 10–25: Brainstorming & Outlining. We map out your arguments, organize your paragraphs, or tighten your thesis statement.
- Minutes 25–50: Live Writing & Feedback. We look at your draft together line-by-line. I give real-time suggestions on sentence structure, vocabulary, flow, and impact.
- Minutes 50–60: Next Steps. We summarize the edits made and set a clear, actionable plan for what you need to write before our next session.
As a current college freshman, I am uniquely relatable because I was just in your shoes. I recently went through the high school grind and successfully navigated the college admissions process. I know exactly what teachers look for and what makes an admissions essay stand out. I bring real-world proof to the table: I recently coached my younger brother through his mandatory summer college essay assignment, helping him transform his draft to score a 95% grade. I bring that same patient, peer-to-peer motivation to all of my students.
