About Josie
I'm an honor roll student and college junior on a full-ride merit scholarship. I've served as a volunteer tutor in a variety of programs, both in person and online. I've also worked in child care and summer camps. But, to be honest, I mostly learned to teach math by helping my three younger siblings with their math homework.

I have tutored students from kindergarteners to high schoolers and my favorite part of teaching is when someone comes to enjoy math, not just be able to do it. I aim to ignite the student's curiosity and stop math from feeling like a chore.
I can teach anything from elementary school math to Algebra 1, and I can pinpoint the root of a student's difficulty. Because math builds on itself so much, often the problem is lack of review of previous concepts.
For any given session, I like to start with asking the student questions, following their thought process and seeing how far they can take me through a problem. Sometimes they can't even start, and that's okay! This routine helps the student learn to approach math problems that they're unsure of, and can help prevent them from shutting down when they are lost at school. I provide a framework for figuring out complex problems, breaking them down into simple steps and even just figuring out what you need to know.
