About Mahira Zana
Hello! My name is Mahira. I am a student at the University of Glasgow studying Common Law. I previously lived in Abu Dhabi where I gained experience by tutoring my fellow students at my school - in Psychology and Biology specifically.
I completed my A Levels in Politics, Biology, Psychology and English Language General. Whilst doing my GCSE’s and A Levels, I, like many students, found learning difficult. I initially struggled to grasp topics and found the volume of content difficult to cope with.
However, I gradually was able to develop techniques for effective revision and structured learning techniques which transformed the way I approached my studies. These strategies have gone on to help me at university as well – as I not only find learning easy but also enjoyable. Subjects like Biology that I initially disliked, I began to enjoy the nuances of the subject with the help of such techniques that I went on to take it up in A level!
Having recently gone through the process of A levels, I have a clear understanding of exam specifications, mark schemes and what exactly examiners are looking for! I am committed to helping students to achieve their goals as well as providing a positive environment where they can flourish.

Every student requires a different technique to study effectively – as a tutor I have learnt to be able to adapt to my students' needs. A small glimpse into how I would design my lesson plan is to identify the student’s current level and where their areas of difficulty are. Depending on that, I would plan lessons with an emphasis on clarity and comprehension of complex topics by breaking them down into manageable steps by using explanations and examples.
Furthermore, a key component of my lessons is examination technique. Understanding how to interpret questions and apply the knowledge that a student has is the most important element which many students don’t consider when revising. I would also be able to give model answers and assist students in developing them. Additionally, I would regularly review any homework or exam questions to ensure that students make steady progress to be able to achieve their academic goals.
