About Marte
As a composer, songwriter and artist for more than ten years, I have had the chance to write a lot of different music in different genres, both in the pop and contemporary music fields - chamber music, singer/songwriter songs, opera, musical, theater and dance music, music for acoustic instruments, music created on a laptop, and music without sound (!). I have my education in composition from the Norwegian Academy of Music (NMH), plus a bachelor's in musicology from the University of Oslo and Goldsmiths, University of London. I have also been associated with NMH as a teacher in composition and songwriting on the Talent Development Programme. Teaching something of what I have learned myself is something I think is both important and inspiring!

Your wishes or ideas are the starting point for your lessons with me. Developing your skills in composition and songwriting is a lot about getting to know yourself and your own creative process. Writing should be tempting - from the earliest idea to the finished result. It is important to find goals and tasks for writing that suit your style, ambition and everyday life. What works? How to create music that excites you? I am keen to find out together with you!
For a composer or songwriter, there are many techniques and methods that can create a strong and credible piece of music or text. Some people have tons of musical ideas and wonder where to start. Others don't have the ideas yet, but feel a need to express themselves musically. To build a good writing process, help can be found in good tools, clarifying questions, new musical references or idea sparring. The right input at the right time can cause a missing piece to fall into place, so that you can experience your music taking shape in a way you like.
