About Max
Max Mabry is an American composer, performer, and educator whose musical background— that ranges from classical and jazz to electronic and rock—shapes his eclectic style. A bass and Bb clarinetist and jazz saxophonist, he has performed widely with contemporary ensembles with a focus on new music by living composers. This flexibility in performance is carried into his roles as a composer and educator, where he pushes to create a diverse understanding of music for his students and incorporate the music he surrounds himself with into his musical style.
Some of Max’s awards include a Grammy nomination for performance on bass clarinet, as well as numerous competition wins, such as the world’s collide showcase in 2025.

I pride myself as an artist that is open and flexible. I think that understanding and thinking deeply about any music that interests you can teach you so much about the art form. Because of this, I approach all music, classical or contemporary with the idea that we can learn and develop from learning about it. This philosophy applies directly to how I approach music composition and theory in lessons, with the goal of creating the understanding each of my students wants to have.
