About Ryan
I am an artist and instructor living and working in Lexington, KY. I have taught two drawing foundations classes during my time in graduate school while earning my Masters of Fine Arts in painting. I am also a musician and self-produce my own avant garde compositions in my home studio, which also doubles as my painting studio. I would say that my own style falls under the Dark Art or Symbolist/Surrealist category, and have been a participant of those genres my whole career. I exhibit often and sell my work online, and have developed quite an entrepreneurial background through art along the way.

As an artist that uses representation in my own work, my style of instruction is based on from-life observation and a firm adherence to the basic elements of art and design. I believe still-life and human figure drawing are key towards becoming a strong artist. I am a pretty straight forward instructor and believe in practical approaches to representation, but I will also encourage a students individual take in certain subjects. I loosely base my instruction on classic Atelier style teaching, in which students will work from still life objects, busts, etc..and use proper tools and a physically engaged approach to working in a studio.
