About Niall

I graduated in 2020 with a BSc in Data Science and since then have worked as a software engineer. During my time as a software engineer I have also gained 18 months experience (approx. 100 hours) tutoring GCSE Maths. I really enjoy tutoring and like to get to know students individually so I can plan and customise my sessions to suit each one. I personally found exam seasons very stressful as I progressed through school and university so I understand how students may be feeling. I want to do my best to help minimise this stress for students sitting those exams today. I believe through tutoring and sharing the knowledge I've picked up over the years since I sat mine, I can do this. In my spare time I like to act in amateur theatre productions and if I'm not on a stage, I'm likely playing tennis.

About the lesson

I offer Maths tutoring up to GCSE level. My teaching methodology varies depending on the student. In general, I like to supplement the teaching a student receives at school by working with them on areas or topics they have recently found challenging. I endeavour to help the student fully understand and practise the methods they have been taught in class, and in some cases, demonstrate alternative methods. All students are different and some may find alternative methods easier to understand and, by extension, remember. I like to do this through a series of regular 60 minute sessions. For those approaching exam season, I like to focus on past papers; understanding the structure of both the individual questions and the exams as a whole so there are no surprises on the day. I find that 90 minute sessions work well at this stage as this is the standard length of an exam and therefore gives the option of working through a paper together in full during a session.

Niall is an outstanding Maths tutor, he is very perceptive and patient while also delivering a transparent way of teaching. In saying this, it has been clear to my son that he has helped build his confidence with GCSE maths gradually throughout his time with him. George is really grateful for his way of approaching difficult subjects as it has made it easier for him to tackle them tricky questions when revising and in the actual real exam. Niall is well prepared and determined to help him out on subjects he does not understand fully by using a mass amount of past papers and fun activities. Overall he is a credible, funny and a delightful tutor, therefore I highly recommend him as a Math tutor for your math studies.
