About Deepika

I am an enthusiastic and hard working tutor, looking to teach GCSE and A-level students. I specialize in Chemistry, but will also teach Mathematics, Physics and Biology at GCSE level. I am a recent graduate of King's College London with a MSc in Chemistry with Biomedicine.

I have always been interested in tutoring, whether it was running the science club in my secondary school or simply helping a classmate when they were struggling in a lesson. I realized I really enjoyed helping others and understood from my own experience that even a little bit of extra educational support allows students to excel in subjects they once thought to be difficult.

I have been a tutor for over 3 years, and have taught A-level Chemistry and GCSE Science and Maths. I create specifically tailored lessons based on the ability and interests of the student. I take into account the specifications of certain exam boards and tackle topics that students may find difficult. In each lesson, I also aim to broaden students' horizons, giving relevant real world context to the subjects I'm teaching whilst also preparing them for their exams.

I have also volunteered in the this site summer slide workshops, teaching AS Chemistry to students who had just completed their GCSE's. It was an enriching experience as I was able to prepare students for harder content covered in AS Chemistry, introducing them to concepts of organic Chemistry. I received very positive feedback from the students and I enjoyed working with them as a group.

I worked hard to make the sessions engaging and helpful, by using a variety of resources. For example I created a handout with useful notes and diagrams and made a worksheet with questions relevant to the topics covered in every session, to gauge the students' level of understanding. I planned each session based on the student feedback and encouraged discussion of more challenging questions and topics. I tried to make the sessions as interactive as possible and devised quizzes and games to keep the students on their feet. The experience taught me how to be flexible in my teaching. I understood that although sessions should have a good core structure I should be open to changing my techniques or the content taught based on the student progress and feedback.

I am a lively person with a good sense of humour and aim to make every lesson enjoyable, whilst keeping an organized schedule and regularly checking the progress made by the student. I have always loved studying Science and Maths, and I teach with just as much enthusiasm as when I learn. Having completed my masters, I now look forward to continuing and expanding my tutoring career and inspire students to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Mathematics and Engineering) subjects in their higher education.
