About Melissa
Perfect technique is often the enemy of expressive playing. My 142 students have discovered that hand independence is not about robotic precision but about finding the natural weight of the arm. I emphasize dynamics and expression early on to ensure that even simple pieces sound musical. Ear training remains a quiet obsession of mine throughout our technical work.
I have taught 142 learners ranging from teens to hobbyists and exam candidates. Sometimes we focus heavily on ABRSM or Trinity grade exam prep to keep goals clear. Other times we explore classical repertoire to build a deeper connection to the keys.
Rhythm and timing are the pulse of everything we do together. I hope to see you at the keys soon, keeping your practice focused and your sound healthy.

The soft click of the metronome sets a steady pulse before the music begins. Lessons here are designed to make the nuances of pedalling technique feel like a natural extension of your own breath. Having spent 11 years performing, I draw on my BM background to help adult learners and teens navigate complex classical repertoire without unnecessary tension.
I provide a short recorded playback of each session so you can review at home and see exactly where your hands drifted out of alignment. My goal is to keep our time together focused on the tactile reality of the instrument rather than just abstract theory. We move through grade exam prep with a clear eye on the technical requirements while preserving the joy of playing.
You will find that our sessions emphasize a clear, reliable method for solving difficult passages. Expect to leave with a very specific, actionable plan for your practice week.
