About Liang

Native Chinese speaker and also an enthusiastic Mandarin teacher living in New Zealand. I have experience teaching Chinese in New Zealand for one year. I enjoy teaching since it brings interesting challenges such as how to make certain knowledge and skills accessible to my students, and allows me to share my culture with them. What I will offer to my students is to make the study more fun and less stunning, and to give clear instructions to make the class easier to follow. I like to prepare my teaching materials using different media or designing games for my students to help them gain and enhance their skills in different aspects.

About the lesson

What my classes usually include: -Phonics: I will share with you some useful tips for pronouncing and will correct your pronunciation in time. -Reading: Reading requires certain skills such as picking up important pieces of information even if you can’t read each of the characters that appear in the article. Listening: The practice of listening will be done in two ways. One is to ask students to grab a rough idea of the materials they listen to. The other way will lead students to listen carefully to some parts which they feel are hard for them to understand. -Writing: The writing of Chinese characters is always regarded as one of the hardest parts of learning Chinese. What I usually do is to share with my students the basic knowledge and history of Chinese characters as a language. I believe that memories based on some understanding will last longer. The request for writing will vary according to your level and your personal needs. -Speaking: The enhancement of this skill will be covered in two ways according to your personal needs and your level. The first way is with certain control – the speaking practice needs to involve using certain grammar. The second is free talk (sometimes this can revolve around certain topics). How to speak properly will be an ongoing focus during this process. It is usually based on the cultural aspects of the language. Also, if what you need is to prepare for a short trip in China, I can help you with simple conversations in Chinese and I believe this will make your trip much more fun. I can also help you prepare for your examinations, such as HSK. She is very good at using constructive criticism to guide me to the right answer without just giving it immediately, making sure that I learn not only what the right Chinese word is but also why. This means that I can then try to apply the rules I’ve learnt to other situations.
I think others would benefit from her enthusiasm for teaching and language, and the lesson-specific resources she has made. I enjoy practising conversational Chinese with Liang.
