About Sarah

IMPORTANT NOTE: I have recently moved to Japan, so the time difference will restrict my availability for students in the UK and Europe, but I will be very happy to take on new students where the scheduling suits us both.

I have always had a passion for science and want to share that passion with students. I have a PhD in medicinal chemistry (the science of drugs and medicine) in which I researched new antibiotics (medicines to treat bacterial infections).

After completing my PhD I worked in a scientific job in the public sector. In that job I found opportunities to work with local schools doing science outreach, but I missed the one-to-one teaching I did whilst at University. Recently, I have moved abroad with my husband and now tutor full-time.

My favourite moments are when a student gets the hang of a topic they have been struggling with and can explain back to me what I have been teaching them.

About the lesson

Every student learns differently and I adapt my teaching style to best suit each individual using a range of techniques including discussion, problem solving, textbook exercises and practice tests suitable for their level.

I am very patient and keen to share my love of the subject with students of all ability levels.

I particularly appreciate the opportunity to help students who have not had a straightforward path through education. For example, students who are outside the regular school system, or who are taking resits.
