About Trevor
I am a contemporary Composer, Music Educator, Percussionist, and Artist. After teaching in South Florida's secondary education system for 7 years, I have been teaching music composition and theory at the collegiate level while earning my graduate degrees at FAU and MSU. I have broad experience with private students in composition, theory, general music skills, and percussion, and my music is currently being performed across the U.S. and Europe. I am interested in helping students find their own voice in creating music, no matter the style, while teaching them to approach musical listening and analysis through a critical perspective.

I teach music composition, music theory, general musicianship skills, and percussion.
I employ a backward design pedagogical approach in which learning outcomes are decided first and inform teaching and assessment methods. This approach assures that students will be properly prepared to meet the lesson objectives; readings, activities, and along the way always keep the end goal in mind. In private lessons, learning outcomes are always tailored to the specific interests of the student. As an example, a student interested in electro-acoustic music would spend a larger portion of their lesson time working to understand recording or synthesis software, while someone writing a saxophone quartet would utilize a larger portion of their time for score study. I believe in presenting activities in a scaffolded manner, allowing students to be prepared for each new step by the lessons that came before. This allows the lessons to cover a significant amount of material, while challenging students without overwhelming them.
