About John
Precision drives my coaching method as I prepare students for the intensity of the ACT Junior Championship. I admit that losing games early in my career taught me more than winning ever did. Holding the Australian Chess Federation Coaching Certification matters little if I cannot communicate the nuances of the game. I have competed in over 120 rated tournaments across Australia and internationally during my 8 years of experience. My approach is structured around openings, tactics, middlegame plans, and endings. I work with adult improvers, kids, and tournament players to build resilience. Consistency defines my routine for every player. Weekly puzzle sets and game analysis form the backbone of my work. Success stems from disciplined practice.

Chess becomes an entirely different game once you stop moving pieces and start executing plans. Visualizing the board during a critical endgame shows the true measure of a player. Drawing on my Australian Chess Federation Coaching Certification, I provide a comprehensive opening repertoire built specifically for you. We focus heavily on time management, defensive technique, and blunder checking. Tactical patterns and king safety remain constant priorities. Expect a methodical approach to your board development.
