I like to show students various different methods and find what suits their understanding best. I like to show them quick tips and shortcuts that I use but allow them to work within their comfort zone. I'm also a big believer in giving them the tools to lead you to the answer rather than spoon-feeding them.
In my experience, confidence and motivation is 70% of the battle. If I can encourage a student to want to win and believe that they can, the teaching is truly just the icing on the cake. I will push them to levels beyond what they, their teachers and peers believe they can, because I know that if they fail 100 times working with me, they are guaranteed to succeed on the most important day - the exam day.
Finally, I'm not much older than my students, I treat them like my peers, I am friendly and most importantly, build them up when they're struggling - confidence is most of the way to the win.
