About Sam

I'm a recent graduate who also works as a freelance artist. I want to tutor because it's without a doubt the most rewarding job i've ever had. I really struggled with mathematics at school, and without the help of my own excellent tutors, I probably would have never gone on to obtain a B at maths A-level, or have got into an Engineering course at Royal Holloway university. I think that maths is often overcomplicated at school, and I'd love to help rebuild confidence of any students, from those who feel they don't have a "maths brain", to those who have always loved maths but are feeling a little lost.

About the lesson

Because each student is individual I will tailor my approach as necessary. My general tactic is to break down topics into smaller, more digestible chunks. If I was teaching fractions and decimals, I'd break that down into basic division and multiplication, and then build up from there. I believe strongly in visual aids, and will use blocks or playdough (if applicable) to help bring the problem out of the students head and into reality.
The average length of my lessons varies from 45 - 60 minutes, but I'm flexible.
I am an engineering graduate with an MEngin Electronic Engineering. I tutored for 5 years before I graduated,doing private one on one lessons with students between the ages of 7-12.
I am happy to tutor anyone between the ages of 5-15.
