About Rosie
Hello! My name is Rosie, and I’m looking to tutor primary-age children in a variety of subjects, particularly maths, phonics and literacy, science, humanities and French. As a neurodivergent person myself, I have a particular interest in supporting children with additional needs including autism, ADHD, dyslexia and dyscalculia. I have an undergraduate degree from Cambridge in Education with Medieval French (yes, really!), an MA from UCL in Special and Inclusive Education and an MSc in Psychology from the University of Roehampton (distance learning). I work as a teaching assistant with a particular focus on those with additional needs and/or English as an additional language. I always try to incorporate a child’s hobbies and interests into my teaching, as this engages them in their learning and provides a sense of ownership over their work. I also like to use hands-on activities such as games or arts and crafts, and have a wide range of maths manipulatives should you wish to meet in-person. My teaching style is friendly and encouraging, and I believe that helping children to identify their strengths is just as important as helping them to improve the things they find challenging.

Every child is unique so no two lessons are the same. Where possible and appropriate, I will work with the phonics and literacy schemes used by the child’s school to ensure that teaching methods are kept consistent. I like to begin with a starter activity, usually a verbal word game such as those requiring word association or knowledge of the alphabet. Depending on the needs of the child, I will either support them with things they are currently working on in class or work towards filling in gaps in the child’s knowledge, such as by revisiting phonics codes, spellings and grammar concepts amongst other areas.
